A silhouette profile left of a young boy aged about 12 wearing a suit and white shirt and tie and holding a peaked cap. Cut out in card and finely highlighted with bronzing. Signed Frith 1848 lower left. Framed in maple with a gold inner slip.

Additional Information: ROYAL VICTORIA GALLERY Gallery at Regent Street, London & St George’s Street, Limerick, run by the Frith family members. Frederick Frith & his two sons John & Henry Albert produced silhouettes of high quality with excellent detail in bronzing. Usually signed ‘Frith’ with no initial, some examples from the Gallery bearing no signature are usually the work of assistants. Outdoor scenes were often given a background of distant hills & foliage in the foreground. The figures posed with feet apart. Indoor scenes often showed flooring consisting of an oval design with a line across the centre of each oval.
